Endowments at The University of Montana Foundation provide recurring funding to the University for use designated by the donor at the time the endowment was established. Endowment funds are invested in the UM Foundation’s Long-Term Investment Portfolio. This portfolio operates much like a mutual fund with each endowment allocated units in the overall portfolio. The value of each endowment fluctuates with the value of the portfolio. Investment expenses, along with an administrative fee used to partially fund foundation operations are spread over all endowments.
