A Year to Celebrate

With economic conditions making 2009 one of our more challenging years, it was also one of our most productive and rewarding. Alumni and friends of The University of Montana demonstrated their loyalty and pride by rallying around the institution and its students. New gifts and pledges made during 2009 totaled over $22.6 million, making it The University of Montana Foundation’s second-best fundraising year ever.

The collective impact of this support ensures student opportunity, enriches the student experience, builds faculty strength and capacity, and fosters discovery and creativity. In sum, generous private philanthropy helps sustain the tradition of excellence at The University of Montana.

Alumni participation in fundraising at The University of Montana has consistently surpassed the average national alumni participation rates. In 2007, the national average for alumni participation was 11.0%, while The University of Montana enjoyed a 13.3% participation rate. In 2008, there were similar results, with the national average being 10.6% and UM's participation being 13.6%. In this past year, 12.1% of alumni participated in The University of Montana Foundation's fundraising efforts, with national participation rates for the year yet to be released.
